AAA: Not All Gasoline Created Equal
While I agree in general, there's a major issue with the relevance of this statement:
The increasing level of carbon deposits in modern engine designs is largely due to direct injection. Since no fuel is present in the intake track, there is no detergent to keep the carbon deposits from building. Running a fuel with 500x the recommended amount of detergent won't change this, because it will never get where it's needed.
In response to increasing levels of carbon deposits in modern engine designs, the Environmental Protection Agency mandated a minimum level of detergent for all gasoline sold in the United States in 1996.
