Default ES300 key replacement

So Joe Car Key Man cannot duplicate my key, claiming it is "dealer laser cut only".

Is there anyone around who can duplicate these keys? The ones that are a flat rectangle down the blade, and have a etched out "canyon"?

I do not want another 300-600 dollar dealer key. I do not need the RF remote. This is an emergency key, since my wife lost the second key and we are down to one, which is v.bad for obvious reasons.

Thanks!

lots of options here, though one thing first, are you sure you don't need the remote? depending on the year of the car, you may need a transponder in the key, else the car will not start...

aside from that, easiest way I found was to find a vendor on ebay, there are multiple, that can cut the key from either the key code or from a clear picture of your existing key... I had this done when I cracked the shell of mine... pretty cheap too

Thanks! That is a great point about the transponder vs immobilizer.

What I am trying to say is that I do not need the RF keyfob/remote, because I do not care about remote unlock for my emergency backup key. I do know that the key works fine without that part, since I had a dead battery in it for weeks! As you point out, tho, that may not be the only electronic component of the key.

Pep Boys was useless, said I had to go to the dealer. Is there any term or phase I should look for to find a local guy who can cut a blank? "Automotive locksmith" is about all I can come up with but I am not getting any hits here for that.
