So changing the PCV valve will bring the idle RPM back to a "normal" rate? The reason I'm asking is 'cause on my '96 ES, the RPM has lately gone up to 1.5 or 2 at times during idle time. I've asked some people around the ES forum, and most of them said this is considered normal for the car, as well as their cars. I appreciate any feedback to this, thanks!

If your idle goes up to 1500 or 2000 rpm, there is a problem and that IS NOT normal. Changing the PCV valve will not solve this problem either. The PCV valve allows air from the valve covers to enter the intake. All air taken into the engine is measured at the MAF (mass airflow sensor). If air is getting into the engine some other way, there may be a vacuum leak. Make sure all the vacuum lines are hooked up and that the tubes are not cracked.

You should clean your throttle body and air bypass valve too. If that doesn't work, maybe it is the throttle position sensor that is going bad, just like the GS.

Additionally, does the 1500-2000 rpm occur all the time or only when the engine is being started in the morning? My car idles that high for a few minutes when it is cold, but after that, it is around 600 rpm...that is normal.

My car does exactly that every time I start the car in the morning; I park my car outside. The needle idles around 1.5 and 2, then brings itself back to 0.7 when I drive out. I talk to a couple friends about it the other day, and they said that's normal for any car.

since the idle drops down after it warms up, that is normal. I thought your idle was like that all the time.

Well, one less thing to worry about!
