Bad smell from AC

Brad, check your supplemental owner's manual. AC filter replacement is part of the scheduled maint, but it is very easily done on the 2002 ES by yourself.

I'll do that. It will be my project this coming weekend. Think I'll try the DYI version of filter as seen in other posts rather than overpay for original and see how that works. A bit disappointed that dealer didn't change or suggest such as they are the only ones to do scheduled maintenance thus far. Apparently not everyone is on that fast track to excellence....

Before you go and buy a new filter or some cleaner, try a quick fix. Put your heater on high and HOT and drive around for awhile. It may get uncomfprtable inside, but ride it out. My car hasn't had moldy smell from the HVAC system since I did it.

Spray Lysol for 5 minutes into the front air vent with the air on HOT, but the lowest blowing setting (let the Lysol settle in). Then every day for the next five days, let the air on full blow at hot setting for 30 seconds before you leave the car. Should kill it.
