I have a 2002 LS430 114,000miles...Thursday after running very low on gas I filled up and when I tried to restart the car wouldn't. After a few attempts I gave it a little gas and it did. It was running very rough but smoothed out in a couple of minutes. When I got home(2miles) I noticed a loud ticking...I was in route to my mechanic when it began running very rough eventually loosing all power. As I coasted off the side of the road still in gear and running...It sounded like a faint machine gun and what sounded like a radiator hose blowing and then everything went dead....I tried turning it over and it felt like the motor was seized.
The car was towed to my mechanic. When we got there he turned the crankshaft just to put my mind at ease that the motor wasn't seized but cant get to it until Monday. He did call yesterday to say that the Starter is broke...I cant believe this is all that went wrong? Thanks in advance for any help...BTW their was no oil/fluids anywhere on the bottom of engine or ground to be found. Totally clean. I checked the oil as well ant it was clean and full.
It sounds like you may have two different issues... One being the starting concern, and the other being the running rough concern.
As far as the starting concern, when you were trying to start the car, did it crank and not fire? Or did it not crank at all, and instead give a solid click? Or it could have cranked slowly enough to not fire. All of these could be a starter concern, and if your mechanic says its a bad starter, then you have confirmation.
Then onto the second concern, its running rough. Best bet would be to check for any codes stored in the system. It could be any number of things. Anything from a bad maf, coil, fuel pump, etc etc... So this would need to be investigated further by your mechanic..
