My '10 RX calls for 0w20 and yet the same engine calls for 5w30 in a Camry.
I still believe 5w30 protects better but 0w20 is recommended because it squeezes a few tenth more miles per gallon.
I may go over to a synthetic 0w30 compromise.
seeing you're in NJ meaning cold winters, i'd go with the 0w better cold flow than the 5w.
as far as w20 or w30 you can go either way, w20 imo is too thin, i'd rather go 30
I believe the only reason Toyota is going with 0w20 is to get the MPG number few tenths higher for the GOV CAFE regulations.
Probably the reason why the 0w20 is formulated for Toyota by Mobil with extra molybdenum (an anti-wear additive) to cut down wear because of the thinner weight.
'10 &'11 3.5L Toyota engines call for 5w30.Why are some models 5w30 and others 0w30??
An 0w30 synthetic should work well.
