Default timing belt change questions...

I have questions regarding the timing belt replacement:

1. Is it possible to remove the crank pulley bolt with an impact wrench? Or do I have to hold the crank in place and use a wrench?

2. Is it possible to change the belt without removing the timing belt tensioner? It says it requires a press to push the pin back in. I'd like to avoid this.

3. The manual says that I need to remove the camshaft pulleys. I don't think that I should have to. Do I?

4. The manual says I need to remove the lower sprocket. I don't think I need to. Do I?

5. Are there any tricky steps in the install/removal?

Thanks,
Mark

Lynnwood. But I just finished doing it...

1. Is it possible to remove the crank pulley bolt with an impact wrench? Or do I have to hold the crank in place and use a wrench?

Yes, but my 1/2" IR impact wrench could not do it. So I had to borrow a 3/4" drive one from a friend. It was a tight fit against the condenser but it worked.

2. Is it possible to change the belt without removing the timing belt tensioner? It says it requires a press to push the pin back in. I'd like to avoid this.

No. I ended up having to go to my school's shop and use a press.

3. The manual says that I need to remove the camshaft pulleys. I don't think that I should have to. Do I?

No, you don't have to.

4. The manual says I need to remove the lower sprocket. I don't think I need to. Do I?

No, you don't have to.

5. Are there any tricky steps in the install/removal?

Not really. I am more of a Honda guy but the Toyota was a lot easier.
