Default rear differentail

My rear differential is leaking. About how much would it cost to repair the leak? I have a '92 ls4. It's not leaking a lot though.

Where is the leak coming from? Pinion seal, axle seals, differential cover, upper differential vent...? More information needed...

According to my mechanic, he didn't say exactly where. I know when i start my car i see some smoke. Then it'll go away. Obviously the leakage from the differential is dripping onto the exhaust in the rear. So i'll just call my mechanic back and ask where exactly is the leak. I've already asked where to go to get the job done (since they don't do that kind of work). They didn't have a place to recommend other than a differential shop. I don't trust going to any shop since i have a toyota (lex. ls4). I'll get back with more info. from my mechanic. I'm getting frustrated with this car. Constant work has been put into the car and i'm about ready to stop.

Smoke when first starting your car? Out of the exhaust pipes? Sounds more like leaky valve seals... Not that you dont ALSO have something leaking in the rear differential, but it sounds like you might have more than one problem.

I actually didn't get it done yet i just top it off when my oil is done its not leaking that bad I guess although it has been slightly leaking for a year or so now. Its pretty much all labor cuz you have to drop the shaft. You can call a lexus service dept and they should be able to tell you how many hours the book says it is. Then ask your mechanic what he charges an hour and add the part price will give you a rough estimate thats what I usaully do and it's usually pretty close.
