Default Quick question (speed issue)

I just bought a 94 gs300 with 101k miles SHOWN and everything runs fine. only problem is the speedometer doesn't move, nor does the odometer acculate miles when i drive. The previous owner my friend which had the car for 5 years, said the odemeter and the speedometer stopped working about a year back so im guessing the car has about 125k on it. He also stated that they stopped working after an after-market alarm with auto start was installed. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so has an idea of where to start to fix this. Thanks!

Check the fuses for a start, if they seem fine, you may also want to check the wiring that may have been a faulty issue. The fuse sounds like the best start to go to

Well, since you have the 300, it would be a bit different. However, I'll check in the morning

Does the aftermarket alarm with auto start actually work? Most of those alarm system have a electrical connector at the unit that interfaces it with the car. Try disconnecting that connector ans see what happens. The other thing to do while you are checking he fuses, is to check the connections that were made when the system was installed. It could just be a poor connection when they installed the alarm.
