Hello everyone. I am having a problem with my ac in my 94 sc300. Just a cuple of days ago it started to make a grinding sound when the ac is on. It sound like the compressor is dry and need some oil. It only happen when i step on gas for like 2-5 sec. then it gose away. Have anyone have this problem befor? Anything will help thanks
sorry if im hacking a bit but my compressor is doing the same thing (grinding noise whenever on) so the compressor is done. Someone told me that i need to replace some other parts as well. What else do i need to complete the repair?

very ironic, after i did a code diagnostic , my compressor started grinding and a burnt smell appeared. is my compressor gone too., the clutch stop spinning, is there something else i can do, like just change the clutch.
receiver/drier needs to be replaced at a minimum, not a bad idea to replace the thermostatic expansion valve as well... then the whole system needs flushed, then evacuated and recharged...
if the clutch gets locked up and will not turn, then that means the a/c compressor is locked up as well... you can turn the a/c compressor by hand if it is working properly...

do you know if there is a write up on changing the compressor, i have searched all over the place. i priced out the parts in lexus, the compressor is 600 and change and the clutch was 300 and change.

A/C is one of those things that if you have to ask how, you probably shouldn't be doing it yourself...
with an A/C compressor, it's a good idea to go ahead and change the receiver/drier and the TXV... The complete system should be flushed with an A/C chemical, then the complete system should be reassembled and brought into vacuum for 30-60 minutes (depending on temperature outside), then charged with the exact amount of required refrigerant...
my bet is that you do not have, at minimum, a vacuum pump capable of pulling 25 inches of vacuum on the system, which is going to be required to do this right...
