Scheduled Maintenance
In the maintenance manual, Lexus recommends that certain things be done every 5,000 miles. For example, at 50k miles, they say to change the thermostats. I was just wondering how important it is to follow the recommended service that Lexus says. How many of you stick to the plan that Lexus recommends. Thanks.

mcgong, you violate Lexus service recommendations at your own risk. If you later have a mechanical failure that can be traced to a part not replaced, Lexus will be unlikely to warranty the repair. Unfortunately, it appears from some posts on CL that some dealers take a harder line than that: if you have a failure in a system that was not properly serviced, they'll refuse to repair under warranty even if the part that wasn't replaced wasn't involved in the failure.
But as long as the service is done, regardless of where, warranties are honored (keep all reciepts to prove it).
Just my .02.

5K service
If you want to risk your cars mechanical well being by following the 7.5K service interval, go right ahead. Ask yourself if you drive in traffic? Short trips? well, do you? Taxicabs are not the only cars that dirve under "severe" conditions

People will give you all sorts of different definitions on what constitutes severe driving conditions, how often you should change your oil, etc.
If you want to know what Lexus (not the dealers) recommends, look in the owner's manual. It clearly lists under what conditions you should follow the 5000 service interval instead of the 7500.
So if you have Lexus telling you you're okay following the 7500 mile interval, and you have some other random guy telling you it's not okay, it's up to you who you should listen to.

Like a dealership isn't always going to tell you the shortest interval? Think about it, the more you bring your car in the more money they make. Lexus seems to be much more serious about scheduled maint. than most car makers. Never once in the 30k+ miles I put on my car did the dealer ever ask about doing anything other than an oil change. AFAIK Lexus has specific things the do the car at each maint.
