Default air intake in CA

because California has such strict smog rules, If i were to get an Injen Intake for my sc430, would it still pass? its a 2003 with just under 50k miles on it. I wouldnt do anything to the exhaust, dont have the money for it, and i'm not sure how much the intake would change the smog on it.

Thanks

You'll pass emission test, but you probably wont pass visual. Just swap back your OEM intake when it's time to smog the car.

I think the only intake that is legal, is the K&N FIPK, it carries a CARB number. Either way, you will pass tailpipe emmisions as GSteg said. Visual is a different story..

unfortunately, K&N doesn't make an intake for the SC430. The only thing I can find from K&N is the replacement panel filter.

Even with all my intake and exhaust modificaitons, bad gas and high altitude, I still manage to pass voluntary emissions in Mexico City (some benefits to this if you decide to do it). I know California is tough. Your main issue on emissions is HC or hydrocarbons and it takes a pretty bad intake to mess that up. My cousin and I help install intakes on vehicles at my uncle's shop and we have yet to hear of someone not passing after installation.

Like the others said, You will pass the sniffer. As soon as they look under the hood you will fail.

You will not pass visual with anything that is not stock unless it has a CARB number on it. There will always be people who got by because it was unnoticed or their cousins uncles brother's roommate passes all the time with an intake. I am just stating my experience and what I ahve been told by the smog techs that I have known.

Heck, I did my own intake for RX300 using home depot plumbing materials. There is no label for any smog technician to notice.
