SC300 idle surge after tune up
Hey everyone,
I just got a tune up done on my '94 SC300 (258,000 miles, AT) which consisted of replacing the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, pcv valve and timing belt... the waterpump did not need to be replaced. Anyways, after the install the engine started to surge at idle (idle moving up and down). It wasn't enough to register on the tach, but I could definitely hear and feel it (not horrible vibrations but some) when sitting in the car. I took the car for a spin and it drives fine but at idle you can still hear the idle surging up and down (very faint with the hood closed). My brother took a look at it and sprayed some brake cleaner on the intake manifold (where the gasket is) and the surging stopped until cleaner evaporated. Although the gasket should be re-usable, this leads me to think I need a new intake manifold gasket set. My question is, has anyone else experienced this problem? Just wanting a second opinion before I go order a gasket set that may not fix the problem. Thanks.

Yea, intake gaskets arent generally reusable. When you are at a lower milage, for example, under 100k, they can possibly be reused. But for the low cost of the gasket, theres no point in skipping out on the gaskets. Get yourself some new gaskets, and recheck it all afterwards. 258k and goin strong! Go Lexus!
