Well I just bought my 96 sc300 about a month ago and it has been running fine without any problems until this past weekend. I drove the car to orlando and on the way back to miami I was hitting about 110mph and the A/C light starting blinking and the A/C compressor cut off . I turned it back on and the compressor cut out again after about 5-10 seconds and the A/C light started blinking again . When I got home I opened the hood to see if I would be able to notice the problem, so I turned the A/C on and ran under the hood to find that the inner part of the A/C pully was not spinning and there were sparks coming out of it . Does anyone have an idea if this is just the clutch that I need to replace or the whole unit?

 

ya gotta have teh clutch removed to see if the compressor spins and to see if the clutch is dead...

 

What Narfy said, sounds like your clutch is locked up. Time for a fun replacement, if you do it yourself, it should run you no more than 250 bucks and about a couple hours.

 

Is the clutch hard to remove? how do I test it to make sure that it's only the clutch thats bad?
