Default Opinions on WIX Oil Filters?

What do you guys think of Wix oil filters? I can get them for a really great price and I was told by a parts distributor that they are higher quality than O.E. filters. What do you guys think about his claims?

bobistheoilguy has an oil filter forum,

http://theoildrop.server101.com/foru...t=0&Board=UBB6

I use K&N oil filters (been doing so for almost 5 years), but only ones that I considered otherwise were the Napa Gold, Mobil 1 and an OEM.

It looks like WIX are pretty good according to that forum. I got the 51348, I believe that is equivalent to the Napa Gold. What do you think?

By all means give it a go.

The K&N for me is easier to remove and install. I was able to notice my RX was a little smoother, slightly less jerkiness than with the OEM filter I had when I came down from Texas and also using a higher weight Mobil 1 15W50 over the M1 5W30 (for a time 15W50 was the only one offered in Mexico).

I stick with Fram or Napa Gold, but I heard Wix are very good, and would try them if I could find em

I really don't know how to compare oil filters, I mean you have to be extremely keen on things to look for but I am running a WIX filter on my RX right now and it's as good as OEM as far as I'm concerned.

Napa Gold is made by Wix, just carries Napa's private label. It is an excellent filter:
1) Silicon Anti-drain back valve, more pliable than nitrile rubber for cold winter application to prevent dirty oil draining back.
2) Bypass valve at the thread end instead of the dome end, so oil does not wash over dirty filter media when filter is in bypass mode
3) Cellulose filter media, trap smaller particles than paper, good oil flow for the $
4) Metal end caps, more durable than paper ones used in FRAM EG and TG

I am currently using oversize application of FRAM XG 3600 instead of stock XG 3614: 3600 is longer for more filter capacity, more filter media; it has the same bypass valve value/thread/diameter, and same price.

Wix equivalent is Napa Gold 1516
