Default synthetic ATF

I want to replace my Toyota type IV ATF with AMSOIL Universal Synthetic ATF. Anybody had any bad experiences with this stuff or know why I shouldn't do this?

Thank you

John

Default type IV

NARFY,

Naval Air Rework Facility person? Just wondering.

Thank you for the info. I checked and verified your data. Thanks again.

Toy is half the cost of AMSOIL also.

I went with amsoil for my drain and refill. I would say I have 30% amsoil in my tranny and the rest of it is Toyota T-IV.

I have no regrets with amsoil. In fact, my toyota fluid use to turn dark after 1000 miles (heavy stop and go traffic), but with the amsoil, it doesn't turn dark as quickly anymore. Within the next two months, I'm going to drain my whole system out and do a full amsoil refill. Amsoil lasts much longer than the Toyota fluid.

Amsoil and Mobil are the only two aftermarket supplier that are approved by toyota. (at far as I know).

I've always heard good things about Amsoil. But it is sometimes hard to believe the good press since Amsoil uses the multi-level marketing and you can't tell if it is a customer or a customer/distributor talkin up the products.

That is true. It's hard to judge a product without marketing interferring. I know I'll be using amsoil from now on simply because it lasts longer than the toyota fluid based on my daily drive

I had the same experience as GSTeg... When I changed the tranny fluid the Toyota fluuid was dark in color, which is normal, according to an article I read on these new tranny fluids (will try to find). But the AMSOIL does last longer and has retained its red color. I've since switched over to AMSOIL on the engine oil and rear differential. My $.02

You need to flush the trans with a BG service with Toyota syn fluid. Drain and fill does nothing to remove particles in the transmission you will never even see.

Whatever you do "DON'T EVER FLUSH YOUR TRANSMISSION" nothing but transmission fluid should ever go into your transmission. You want what is called a fluid exchange. That is where they exchange about 18 quarts of fluid through your transmission with the idea being that you end up will all new fluid. You can just do the regular transmission service dropping the pan cleaning out the filter and filling it back up, I would recommend that you use the correct Toyota fluid for this service. I did the exchange with Mobil synthetic fluid on my FZJ80 since I was changing all the fluid.
