Only use what the engine requires.

10w-40 is a bit too thick. Unless you're living in death valley where temperature is darn hot, use 5w-30

Mobil1 50/50 mix of 10W30, 20W50....

changed every 5k miles (it's easier to keep track when you do it on 5k intervals)

Mobil 1. Changed to the synthetic about 2 months ago to prepare for the cold temps. With the oil and my remote start. I practically have no worries about premature engine wear when I drive off in cold weather.

Currently Mobil 1 5w-20, 0w-20 for RX300's 1mz-fe.
However, Mobil 1 is rumored to offset the increase in group IV base oil by going with the cheaper Group III base stock since late 2006. See thread in BITOG that has some hard evident.
With a demanding 1mz-fe engine, I need additional oxidation protection. German Castrol 0w30, Group IV PAO based oil, will be going into my engine in the future.
If GC go with the cheap route like Mobil and Pennzoil did, Pennzoil Platinum (group III) + Auto-RX will get the nod.

A quick bit of research on Mobil 1's site will show you that it depends on which weight and type of oil you are using that determines if it's III or IV...

when I get to work later I'll post a link for it...
