How to fix a stripped bolt?

Default How to fix a stripped bolt?

Hey guys, I was changing the transmission fluid on my sc4 and the bolt is stripped. I have tried messing with it for an hour and couldnt get it out. Any advice?

I don't have direct experience with this situation, but a general suggestion is that one solution is to unbolt the whole pan and take it to an auto machine shop. They'll be able to fix it.

try using a vice grip and a breaker bar...I had the exact thing happen to me...since the vice grip method didnt work, i used a hammer and a small pointy stick and knocked it out, that worked...goodluck those are a pain

if u can get a hold of snap on or sears there are sets out there spacificly made for stripped bolts

Before you drain the fluid, I'd get a spare from the dealer. Then use the clamping pliers and you should have no problem.

Mic or caliper the new bolt and wrench and verify it is the right size. I buy screws with some frequency and the manufacturing tolerances between bolt head and wrench leave much to be desired. I have to measure parts before assembly and it amazes me how messed up some parts are.

Sears Craftsman has this set of tools that can un-do stripped bolts. Don't remember the name. Bob Vila was in the commercial.
