cabin filter
is there any reason i can't just remove the cabin filters and leave them out? i want maximum air flow. i don't smoke and no one else does in my car. why pay for new filters? i've never had them in any other car and i just can't see the expense of something that will, over time, slow up the air flow.
Its for things you dont see. I would rather have to change filters every once in a while, because you cant change lungs. Not that it was goign to kill you, but whatever ends up in the filter, could have ended in your lungs.
My consideration is that the filter keeps the fan cage, motor and it's bearings clean. Dirty motors bind their bearings, operating slower and noisier.
Filters cost less than replacement motors and the cost of installing.

If you can't afford to buy new filter, just clean it with compressed air can and put it back.
Unless you never use the fresh air intake setting, the cabin filter is keeping all sorts of debris from cloggine the air conditioner coils. I've removed all sorts of pine needles, plants seeds, and stuff like that when I change filters every 18 months.
bob2200's got it right. Besides dust, dirt, etc., it stops the pine needles and small pieces of leaves. I have no idea where they would end up if the filter wasn't there, but I expect in the long term it would clog something else up and be a real problem.
Make your own filter rather than buy the expensive Lexus ones. It probably would be less restrictive of the airflow.

All Lexi, and most Toyotas have a space for an air filter. They have on & off been all combinations of factory, dealer option, hidden option, and not installed period.
The car doesn't *need* a cabin air filter. If elevendy billion other cars don't have them, there's no reason in *i***i** about not having one. If you want one, PUT IT IN.
The filters will not keep mold & mildew out of the system. The filter will not prolong the life of the blower system.
The systems are a post blower filtration... Not pre-blower. If you notice, the blowers do have a cheap foam filter on their internal pick-up. Feel free to clean that off with soap & water, rinse it, dry it & put it back if it floats your boat.
