Im having the common SC400 stalling issue. While on the road, usually on a long straight highway, the car would suddenly stall. I would drift to the side, turn it off, and then start back up and take off. This happned maybe once every two months or so at most.
Well now it still does that, but now it also stalls EVERY single startup. I start it, rpms jump up and back to normal, then over 5 seconds... the rpms drop, engine sputters, and then stalls. The onyl way to counter this is to immediately press the accelerator after startup. I must admit I can hear what sounds like water rushing while Im revving it after startup... that goes away as well.
Someone mentioned it could be the throttle position sensor (TPS) Any idea?
Sorry, I've got an SC3 but I know how frustrating it gets when there are XXX amount of views, but no replies. Any codes thrown by the computer? Recent tuneup? Fuel supply issue?
60K mile service doen at 60K miles... air filter could be cleaner but not overly dirty.... oil changed 2000 miles ago... this is probably one of those throttle position sensors or MAF things ive heard so much about. Although the "rushing water" sound leads me to believe my injectors are flooding the engine or something bad like that...
I just went outside to start my SC400 and run it for a little while and it started and ran well... I ran it for a good 5-10 minutes. I stepped into it and revved it a little and noticed that "water rushing sound" from under the hood.... I waited a minute and gave it a rev again, and sure enough, the sound came back. I turned the car off.... and then back on and it stalled. Is this an injector problem or something? I dont think this is a throttle position sensor or the MAF....
problem solved. Determined to be the throttle body... very very dirty. Shop removed it and cleaned it thoroughly for 2 hours of book labor, and also replaced the gasket which was $3. Car runs well again.
Recommend any lexus V8 with 100K miles might want to have this done.
