Default Brake Sensors

Changed to my winter tires today and measured the brake pads on my LS430. The dealer tells me new pads are 10mm new and need to be changed before they get to 5mm or they will get the brake sensors. Right now my pads measure 7.37mm, which would be slightly over 50% gone.

What's interesting to me is that I have 30995 miles on these pads. Seems unreal compared to what I have read about brake life on the 430.

So..is the info I got from the dealer on pad thickness correct???and if so, how have I done so well on brake life (I don't baby my baby). Or is Lexus changing a whole lot of brakes way to early?

BTW (I did measure just the pads and not pad and backing plate). Discs also look GREAT!

The brake pad will touch the plastic cover of the sensor at 5 mm. The wires that will tip the sensor to turn the brake warning on is at 2 mm. You can wear you brake pads all the way to 2.5mm and then change brake pads. Don't do it at 5 mm.

You must do a lot hwy driving. In the stop and go traffic the brake pads will wear a lot quicker.
