Default Takin my SC300 in for a tune-up

I finally got the parts for an overdue tune-up on my 1992 SC300. It currently has 138k miles and still running on original wires. The plugs were replaced last by the dealer at 70k miles. I acquired the following OEM toyota parts online and at the dealership

1. NGK Iridiums 15 bucks shipped. hooked up by fellow forum member

2. [Wires ($54), Cap ($10), Rotor ($3)] + 10 shipping = $78. Got it off a site; Genuine Toyota stuff

3. [2x Valve Cover Gasket ($14 each) + Grommets ($32)] - 10% discount = $68 @ North County Toyota in Anaheim

My mechanic is going to charge 180 even for labor to install all that. I hope it really makes a difference.

Save the $180 on the mechanic. All the work you are planning can very easily been done by yourself inside of a day tops!

Search for DIY's here on CL. There are detailed write-ups on how to do each thing your planning.

I'd let a mechanic to the fuel filter instead of DIY. That is a very messy repair.

PCV valve = 5 minutes

Fuel filter = An hour or two of absolute hell, for this job, bring it to a mechanic. Ive done all the work on my car, and this is the ONE job I wish I had brought my car to Toyota for

A mechanic that has experence with these cars, the fuel filter is not that difficult a change.

You probably already did the tuneup , but dont forget that if you are going to DIY you will need to drain some coolant . So you may want to just flush the cooling system too. you'll need some coolant regardless.
