I have a 99 RX300 with 56K miles on it. Everytime I apply my brakes I hear a loud clicking noise and occassionally I hear a squealing noise coming from my front brakes. Do I need to get my front brake pads replaced or is their some other problem? I know that their are TSB's out for the squealing of the brakes and the hydraulic function but does a TSB mean that the dealer will fix the car without charging me? I was just curious b/c my RX is out of warranty so I would rather go to a Toyota dealer if their is a major repair required and I have to pay for it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
hey VVT, could you elaborate on this? Are you saying if one's car is still under the 48k/4 year mark that I could take my car into the dealer and not expect to pay for break service cause of this TSB?
I am currently experiencing vibration when braking at high speeds. The ALLDATA TSB relating to this would be: BR002-04 MAR 04 Brakes - Front Brake Vibration (For a 2002 RX300).
I think there was a TSB for the pads clacking when reversed then put in forward. Even with the 99 tsb my 03 does the same thing! Unbelieveable for a Lexus! Maybe that's your problem but you need to reverse the car to set the pads in the slots so they clack when the car is put in forward. It will even do it if I break hard so the car lurches back, if you drive hard this may be it.
I have grown to sort of like the noisy pad clacking, when I drive by BMWs, MBs, etc. in lots I know mine is unique.
Took my car into Lexus dealer for an oil change and happened to mention these TSBs regarding brakes for my 2k2 RX 300.
According to the TSB, it calls for replacing the entire brake system. (Calipers, brake pads replaced and rotors turned). Cool thing is...everything is free!!!!
Thanks goodness I'm still under warranty!!!!
The car is still in the dealer. I'll keep you guys updated to see what curve ***** come my way.
If you still have your car under warranty, try mentioning TSBs. You might just get a free brake job.
So is this normal for RX300 brakes to make a clacking noise as you say? My RX is out of warranty so I definitely don't want to have the whole brake system replaced if I don't have to. What causes the clacking noise to occur. Do you think I should have my Local toyota dealer take a look at it?
