Junk if this is the case then why did the local lexus dealer tell me today that the price of this cabin filter for a 96 ES300 is $47?

Not true at all. My '01 ES has a cabin filter from the factory. I'm pretty sure this filter was available as an option for the '97-'99 ES, and factory standard for the '00-'01 ES.

Default cabin stink

golffnutt - here's the way to find it: you better print this - it's long
but it's right here in CL

on the home page under `articles'
clik info by model
next page clik sc400
" clik sc400
" clik 93 sc400
" clik service bulletin
" under AC evap odor
clik more
" AC evap odor
" clik open

the complete TSIB on all of certain models/years will be downloaded via acrobat
it includes 92 - 96 es300
hope I didn't make any mistakes on this

obviously I'm an SC person and can't vouch for anything else - I sprayed
my evaporator with alcohol/water mix

Mikefly thank you for the info. I got it and will check it out over the weekend and let everyone know if I have solved this puzzle yet or not. This has been one pain in the you know what. Hope I can get it correted this weekend. Thanks for your help. By the way any idea where to get the spray gun shown in the bulletin or how much it cost?

96es300 does have a cabin filter.

The plastic cover to the right of the gas pedal removes and then there is 1 more little panel that covers the hole for the filter. Im suffering from the same smell. Im just gonna drop it off and the dealership have them clean the clogged drain tube and put in the filter.

I beleive everyone when you say it is just to the right of gas pedal but look at the below email from a Lexus Dealer and "parts specialist" stating it is under the dash on the passenger side. I still can not find it in either location nor an empty slot where it should go. I am really not this dumb but this one has really got me.

Rick- this filter should be under the dash on the passenger side of your car. You will have
to take a panel or two off and it will be in the side of the heater case assembly. If you have
any other questions please feel free to contact me directly. Thanks!
