You basically have to remore the EGR system and clean all the inside of it.

could be either one of
1. clooged EGR system
2. bad o2 sensor
Code 71 means a bad EGR temp sensor(a $200 part) or low EGR flow.

I been told that cleaning it wont be as effective as just replacing the parts! Since it wont be the same.

Problem is I dont know which egr specific part is fubared, is it the egr vacum modular? The egr valve itself or something else related?

Any sure fire way to tell?

almost in any case a cleaned up used part is not going to be as good as a new part, but it may just as well be effective. Instead of shelling out 200bucks, if it were me I'd try to clean it first. No sure fire way to tell.

Since I am going to attempt to clean it what should I use to clean it? Brake cleaner? Carb cleaner? What?

I recommend to replace the "Y" intake tube( for the SC300 or GS300). It's only cost you about $100.00 for the " Y" intake tube, but it will save yourself a lot or money in the long run.
Code 71 on the 92-97 SC/GS300 is for the low flow EGR gas, which mean the EGR port inside the intake is clogging up. You can try to clean the port up, but it will come back within a few thousand miles.

So this is a recurring problem?

I tried cleaning the ****ing piece of **** egr valve ( I swear to ****ing God if I see one of the save the whales, cars pollute to much hippie crowds I will take my ****ing SC300 and will ****ing run them over repeateadly. Ill do the same to the bright mind that had the bright ****ing idea to come up with EGR valve!!!!!!! !!!!)

ANYWAYS... Cleaning the EGR valve accomplished absolutely noting!!! the car still misfires, So 6 hours laters and still back to square one!!!! However in the process I did manage to **** up the flimsy little wires that connect back to the EGR valve to something else... I tried plugging them back in but there is no indication if I got it right or not Theres no way to freaking tell if the connection is good or not!!

Im this pissed of at the car Ever since that douchebag ****ing rear ended me ... problems started.

Now what? Whats the name of that cable? Its the only cable that goes to the EGR valve.

Any suggestions? This car will never pass emissions as long as the misfire is still there. Im already driving on expired tags.

Made a second attempt to clean egr valve and tube, this time I got them to look pretty clean. I noticed the egr temp sensor was broken so I replaced it. after all was said and done I turn the keys on any missfire is still there.

Ill be purchasing the egr modulator now. If that doesnt work... Ill have to try the Y intake pipe.

Btw what is the name for that y intake pipe?
