When the Antenna raises, I am hearing an awful grinding type sound... seems like its the power motor... it stops about a few seconds after it raises...

anyone know how I can correct this on my own?

That might be a sign of the flexible plastic mast losing its teeth.

There is a fellow that sells replacement masts on eBay. If you search on eBay for "LEXUS SC400 POWER ANTENNA MAST 92-00 WITH INSTRUCTION" you'll see his ad ($15).

And if you'll search on ClubLexus, you can find previous posts that explain how to replace it.

Perry sounds exactly right. I had the same problem on my LX, never occured with my SC. There are several sellers of replacement masts. Try to get one that is OEM Toyota parts rather than aftermarket so you get the original fit and finish, it might cost a few dollars more but if you do the work yourself you are saving literally hundreds of dollars so go ahead and spend the extra $10 or $15 to get factory replacement part. Be sure to compare the length of the white nylon with to be sure that a broken piece of it isn't still inside the power unit.
This is where I bought mine, they were very helpful with clear DIY instructions and telephone consult if needed.
