Default Flashing A/C

I started my car and i noticed that the A/C light was flashing. I pressed it once, it turned off, i pressed it again, it was solid green again. This has happened to me yesterday and today. What's going on?

run the AC system self diagnostics and see what codes are displayed.

Compressor might be malfunctioning or your a/c fuses are fried. Work backwards with the fuses...and start going through the system. You still getting cold air with the system on?

Woogie-- Your AC system is 100% FINE! My does the same thing and I looked in the manual, yup the little book in the glove compartment and it stated this happens sometimes.

Also even hooked up the Snap-on micro scanner and came up with ZERO codes. I did this to prove nothing is wrong, to me.

that doesn't make sense to me. If nothing is wrong, then why the irregular flashing?

Well... when mine did that it was due to a compressor clutch not disengaging. In the summer it will seem completely normal but turn the AC *OFF* (as I did in the fall) and suddenly the light started blinking.

*shrug* Good luck finding it.

From a Lexus tech, the AC light flashing isnt normal... It means one of a few things... EIther your system is overcharged, and the high pressure switch is turning off the compressor, your system is undercharged or there is a restriction and the low pressure switch is turning off the compressor... or your compressor clutch is slipping or wont disengage... sure... it may be intermittant right now, but eventually it will turn into a bigger problem.

It depends on when the flashing is. In my manual on PG 108 it clearly states that the Flashing A/C button is fine if it goes to green once AC is pressed again. So if you press it once and it flashs, press it again. If it becomes green, you are fine; if not see a "car fixer man"!

So by what Woogie states this is their problem. It is fine if you go by the manual or bad if you go by RTCamaroSS "lexus tech. So far, I will trust the manual since it must be a known thing to print this statement in about 300K manuals.

I asked my inlaws about this about 2 years ago since I had the flashing when I got right into the car on hot days. He said if the car is sitting for a long time in the sun (over 120 degress inside on temp guage) it will more then likly flash. He said drive the car for about 1 minute with AC off then press button and it will come right on. So far, this has worked.

If your light flashes only in really hot weather, im willing to bet that your system is charged at the high side of the capacity spec. With 134a cars, its always a good idea to fill the system to the low side of the spec, as the heat will cause the high pressure switch to kick in if the system has a high charge in it. While it may be "normal" in lexus engineer's eyes, it can still be fixed. Years of having customers complain about this particular problem has resulted in a few different fixes, this one being the easiest.

It is good to see this is an easy fix. I am just saying I have seen it in the book. I might look into a fix but then again if it is not broken.......Kind of a catch 22.

Could you post the easy fixes?
