Default Shifting problem

Hello Team, I just want to see if anybody can help me out. It feels like my sc4 is shifting to fast and then it feels like its staying in the upper gears so when i hit the gas if feels like its a 6 cycl. If I hit the gas more it will then kick in with the 8cycl power. Is this a linkage problem. Adam

Have you tried switching the ECT (electronically controlled transmission) button on your console to power? It will raise the shift points so that it holds each gear further into the rpm band, and it will make kickdowns more available. The transmission mated to the SC4 and LS4 is a bit of lazy-butt in my opinion.

Default No good.

When I take my foot off of the gas I feel and hear it clunking. If I tap the gas I feel and hear it grabbing as if it was tring to catch up with the motor.

Try doing a tune up. I just changed my dirty air filter yesterday and my car felt stroger and faster. Also try checking your tranny fluid. Your car will shift alot smoother w/ new tranny fluid( make sure you use toyotas type IV fluid). It might also be your tranny mount that can cause lagging and that thump. I also changed mine yesterday and it definetely made a big difference. No more vibration at 30-40mph, the cars quieter and it's a little faster espicially off the line.

When you say it's as if it was trying to catch up with the motor, do you mean that the motor is revving but you're not accelerating in anyway, and then all of the sudden the transmission kicks in? Because the way you described it makes it sound like your transmission is slipping. I think you should take it to any transmission shop and have them drive it. There are several shops that will do that for free. Good luck man.

Thanks for all the replys. Well, come to find out all of the clunking is coming from the lower control arms The bushings on both sides are gone. Now on the hunt for some new bushings.
