SC400 - A/C Condensation leaks into cabin
Hi,
Happy 4th.
When I use the A/C, regardless of the humidity level, water leaks all over the front passenger footwell. It's coming from below the rear left of the glove box.
I did a search and ended up ripping out the whole glovebox to look for backed up hoses and crawled under the car to clear up the drainage pipe, but to no avail.
What should I do next? Seeing that leaves and debris could've fallen through the grill below the windshield (on the outside of the car), I may just remove it and see if anything is clogged under there.
What is the best way to access the evaporator? Anybody have other tips?
Thanks for your help in advance.
SM

I took a closer look at the area under the glovebox and found the drainage hose for the A/C condensation water. The hose is towards the front of the car, directly under the rear center of the glovebox. If you peel back the carpet (requires removing the trim at the door), it'll be easier te see. Before disconnecting the hose to unclog it with a metal wire, I disconnected the negative battery cable and strongly advise everyone to as well. The car's ECU/DME is directly beneath the hose and is susceptible to water damage.
After peeling back the carpet, remove the black plastic cover via the two nuts. Be careful, as the ECU/DME is directly beneath it. You should see a nut at the lower left of the ECU/DME box (the box on the left) - remove it and gently swing the computer box out of the way. Cover all of the boxes with a piece of plastic and have a towel handy. Disconnect the soft rubber hose from the white hard plastic nipple and get ready to soak up any spilling water. User a piece of thin metal wire and try to clear the rubber hose. Compressed air would be even better. Pour some water (with a straw) down the hose to see if it drains underneath the car. If it does, you might have solved the drainage problem. Let's just hope the evaporator is not blocked up by the leaves/debris that comes through the vents at the bottom of the windshield. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Hope this helps.
BTW, does anyone know if the A/C cabin filter from the later SC cars will fit our 93 SC?
Thanks...

I had a simiar problem with a Toyota years ago. I crawled under the car and found the drain hose. It had been kinked somehow, my only guess is that I must have driven in snow or something that pushed on the hose causing it to kink/bend. Anywho, I just grabbed the hose and straigened it out. I got a face full of condensate for my troubles
but the water leak in the cabin was fixed.
