i took out what was supose to be my cabin airfilter today to clean it, and found out when i dropped the plastic cover and the air filter bracket that i had no filter, but instead i had ALOT of nasty dirt that fell all over me. so i called up the local lexus dealer and they want $75 for a filter, so i decided against that.
i was wondering if anyone has made there own from a high end home air filter? would it be better or worse? also could some one give me the dimensions of the cabin filter so i can attempt to make my own?
thnks

If someone has a filter, please measure it. There are LOTS of different filters for household applications, and lots of sizes at Lowe's. I am sure something would fit for considerably less than $75.
Its strange because when I came to replace my cabin air filter I too noticed that I never had one there in the 1st place. I got mine from the dealership for like 45 bucks I dont know how your getting a price for 75 .
I got mine from them dirt cheap. Genuine Toyota. Never go to the dealership. They will charge you an arm and a leg and the'll take your watch when you are not looking.
http://www.lexus-parts.com is owned by Sewell Lexus; a huge Lexus dealership Dallas. I live 5 miles away from them. I went to their showroom, and they asked way way too much for a part compared to their website. So I told the sales guy that I'll go ahead and buy it from their website. I pulled my laptop out in the parking lot hooked it to my phone and ordered it right then and there on their own lot. I walked up to him (4 minutes later) to pick it up, smiled at me (despite me paying the shipping) and he said that they don't allow pickups. I couple of days later, it shows up. If you call them they;ll admit that they charge more for walk in compared to their website.

I just don't like the fact that I should have one but don't, I wonder if it would improve the quality of air in the cabin. I think it should, and I need it too because I work in downtown LA. This little filter may add a few more hours onto my life!!!! If I can find one for cheap I'll buy one...if not I guess I have to make it...
