Unhappy Timing Belt Replacement Problems - Anyone??

After replacing the timing belt, spark plug wires, caps and rotors on my '93 LS400, the engine exhibits the following problems/symptoms:

- Startup: initially stubles but only for about a second.
- Idle: runs fine.
- Slow acceleration: revs freely.
- Hard acceleration: misses badly and will not rev past about 3K RPM.

What are the symptoms of an incorrectly installed timing belt?

Thx,
Steve

First re-check that the ignition wires are routed properly and seated on the plugs.
If that checks out, take it back and have the timing checked.

The ignition wire is IMO the most likely.

Double check your cam timing and crank timing. Line up the timing to TDC and check your cam timing mark on both cams.

Cool Found It!!!

After checking the:
base timing... OK
cam to crank timing... OK
placed timing light on all wires (at idle)... OK
resistance of wires... OK

I noticed a spark arc on from the RH coil wire to the cam gear on startup. PROBLEM was a defective Napa Brand coil wire. There was a hair-like wire extending from the back of the boot (see picture)...

Thanks for the help,
Steve

Thats why you should use lexus parts(toyota) on your car and not generic parts from bennet, napa etc... Good to hear that you solved the problem...
