I would like to disable the retracting telescoping steering column when I enter and leave the car. Car has 116K miles, I want to save life on that motor. 98GS400, there is no switch on the steering column, but maybe someone knows how to program the computer?

 

The Lexus dealer can disable the motorized steering retraction for you--the motorized settings and switch won't be affected, just the retraction upon key removal. Unfortunately, you can not disable it yourself via series of a dashboard switch pushing or any combo of the sort, like some other vehicle manufacturers. Probably costs $40 for them to do for you, or just ask them to do it during a service visit, and it might be gratis. Who knows?

 

thanks, i was hoping it was a DIY, similar to programming a new key. i guess my alternatives are to pull the fuse, which would also kill power seats....
