8 cylinder: 20004 / YZZB5 / YZZD3
6 cylinder: 20003 / YZZB9 / YZZD1

8cyl. filters same in construction as 6cyl. filters except slightly larger (taller).

The YZZB was stripped down version of 2000. Both series made in Japan, and now discontinued.

How does the YZZD1 compare with the US-made Toyota 08922-02011 filter (supposedly OEMed by Purolator)?

Default K&N HP-1002 $9.99

I am the only one with the belief that these are very high quality oil filters? Having seen with my own eyes the new Toyota filter for the 2jz-ge engines, I was shocked. This looks like a total piece of crap. Standard media, cheap looking all the way.

EDIT,

Where are you finding Mobil One Filters, who sells them (West Coast). Are the prices about $10, on par with the K&N?

I've read several articles about the subject, and they usually say that the Mobil 1 filters are more superior. I use that. It's not really all that expensive. I spend more money at starbucks on a few Frappucinos.

I get my Mobil 1 filters at either Pep Boys or Auto Zone. I'm not sure what are the more popular auto parts chains on the west coast. And yes they are a superior filter than your average unit. About on par I would say with the K & N filter.

The YZZD3 also fits the 6 cylinder. I've been using it on my 1996 ES 300 with no problems...

Default Fool born every minute

Bought a new 06 LS430 two weeks ago, and then went to parts counter to buy an oil filter to change midway through the oil change to keep mfg debris to a minimum.

Lexus hands me a Toyota filter P tNo 90915-YZZD3 ($13.95) and a gasket ($2.66) for a total cost for my filter of $16.61 plus tax.

So where is everyone getting the $3.60 filters 90915-YZZD3?? And since I have not looked at the filter on my LS430, is it a 90915-2004 or 90915-YZZD3? Anyone know, the car is at my wife's work.

The D3 is the Toyota filter, locate your local Toyota dealer for the purchase..$5. Smile and they will usually throw in the pan plug gasket.

Then again, your local auto supply may carry the K & N Oil Filter. Your Lexus uses the HP1002. http://www.knfilters.com/search/appl...x?Prod=HP-1002

It's considered a long life, High flow, High filration. One of the best available.

It comes equipped with a one inch size nut welded to the top for easy removal.

All new Lexus V-8s come with the 90915-20004 filter installed, as well as certain Japan assembled Toyotas such as 4runner and FJCruiser.

Thanks for the info. I had to join the iH8mud forum and I don't even own whatever that forum supports. But I joined and sent an PM to MOT to see what they would cost me. I see he is in Japan and probably sleeping right now.
OBTW, where do I look for the oil filter? Left side, right side, from the top or from the bottom?

DaveGS4: If Steve Ganz can do a group buy for CL members, I would be happy. My intent was to help fellow enthusiasts, and not commerical at all. I have responded to your PM as well.

As background, I did try to locate these filters with CL vendors. Even today, there is no corresponding entry when I search Steve Ganz's website for these filters. That was the reason I went looking for these filters elsewhere. My intent was not commercial in nature, and neither was it to violate any forum rules or upset anybody here, least of all the moderators.

I thought I was helping fellow forum members as partial payback for all the excellent information I have picked up from here over years and years.

My public apologies, if any are required. If not, I stand corrected for the future!

The oil filter on the LS430 V8 is on the front lower left (driver's side) corner of the engine, sort of. It is difficult to see from the top, but can be easily accessed from below after removing a couple of screws holding up a little plastic flap. There is no need to remove the whole undershield.

Please be safe when you go hunting for the oil filter!
