If when all said and done, the total labor and oil costs for Syn is in essence simply double a Dino, then it holds that if you get twice the longevity, they are equal.
If Sny is better quality, and allows you more time to an oil change, say 6K miles, versus after 3K that you would have with Dino, then Sny is the way to go, no? Another way of looking at it is you would have gotten 2 Dino oil changes spread over a longer period for you money, but you would have had to go twice in shorter spans, thus more effort, and in reality, more risk of doing damage by delaying...
Right now I am using a high performance German Oil called Voll SYnthese with the additive Lubro Molly. I have gone 4,500 miles and I am taking my car to my mechanic on Monday for an oil change.
I used to do dino and filter every 3k. Now I do synth-blend and filter every 5k. I never use pure synth but, even if I did, I wouldn't keep it in longer than 5k.
Mobil 1 5W-30 runs around $4.99/qt
Mobil 1 filter or OEM runs around $9.99.
All of these can be had for cheaper if bought in quantity, discount stores (Wal-MArt, BJ's, Cosco) or via internet Toyo parts distributors. A little searching yields some savings.
ranjankhan, synth runs me ~$20.50 (not sale price) for a 5gt. jug of Castrol full synth. at Walmart. Dealer had synth. or said byob so I byob'd it for a free 5k change, guess they'd try to charge the normal price but in the future when I am paying for it I will at least get an oil replacement credit.
i use full synthetic every 4k i want to make sure my car is running smooth. if i could i would run royal purple best stuff i have ever used but if not that i use either mobile1 or castrol full synthetic you dont notice the difference between castrol and mobile1. BTW if u use full synthetic it is recommended to keep using full synthetic its not good to switch back and forth (dino to synthetic)
