Yes, the factory oil change using recommended synthetic oil is 12 months or 10,000 miles under normal conditions. That is more of a mandate from government regulations than what is best for the engine. Governments have pushed to extend maintenance intervals in the interest of the green movement. The reality is most vehicles are not driven under normal conditions, and actually need to follow the severe usage especially in northern climates where the engine is not driven fully warmed up long enough. The reality is oil should be changed at 5,000 miles for engine longevity. https://support.lexus.com/s/article/...-oil-chan-8201
I used to run my old 99 RX300 AWD at 7500 mile intervals 20 years ago. I am on my second CT200h, these call for 10k mile changes. I recently went 15k with one using Mobil 1 0W20 Extended Performance (using a Purolator Boss filter (cartridge)), no oil loss.
I remember growing up that even in the early 1980s the change was around 3k miles, then 5k miles thereafter up into the 90s. You cannot go wrong on the 5k miles mentioned, but modern oils can hit 10k with ease.
