We ended up with an awesome deal on a 16 LX earlier this year, but looked closely at a new 17 LC, 18 Sequoia and the 18 Navigator as the three key viable options..

We quickly disqualified the Armada/QX80 (fake luxury, unrefined powertrain), GX (underpowered, cramped, wife hated the tailgate), new-body-style Land Rover Discovery (awesome on-road performance, woeful reliability of course).

We pondered a little on the Suburban/Yukon (could get a great deal, but rides like #@%^), Mercedes GLS (options add up $$ quickly, reliability but superb 3rd row seats and on-road manners), XC90 (cramped 3rd row but really loved the large Sensus infotainment).

18 Navigator Reserve came with adaptive dampers, wife loved the theater-seating 3rd row seat that sat adults comfortably and the 30-way seats was awesome. 3.5L Ecoboost is awesome though 10-speed tranny hunted the right gears often, it didn't ride as refined as the LX. We were surprised how much we liked the Navigator though.
18 Sequoia Platinum was a slight refresh but just unrefined and noticeably outdated, especially the infotainment. Good if it was $40k maybe, but it was $68k MSRP...
17 LC was $10k off sticker as a new stock leftover, wife really liked it we just ended up with a better deal on the 16 LX.

Comfort, features, reliability, and possible resale. Probably never sell it, but if I did it would hold its value week. All others become worthless pretty quickly.

Having onwned the lx570 and lx470 before nothing compares. Itís the best so thatís why I have it. Need to haul kids etc.
i did however buy a gx460 luxury fully loaded recently and itís a very nice suv too. It almost reminds me of the lx470 the way it drives. I drive the gx more often because itís just easier to drive and park.

we had few rx350 before and I almost bought a rx350L until we drove a gx.

1. Knew I wanted a 200 series. Still have my 100, 320k miles of virtually no maintenance.
2. Drove a couple of LX's. That spoiled me, drove a GX and said, "Nice, but not remotely close."
2. Couldn't find an LC without paying a premium over an LX.
3. Dealer got a one-owner trade-in - I jumped on it.

Couldn't be happier.

Allow me to answer the question not being asked. Why haven't you bought the LX but still come here from time to time?

Well that's two questions. To answer the second one, the reason I lurk here is because I am an RX owner but my dream car since my youth has always been the LC/LX.

The reason I haven't bought one now I could afford one is that the dilemma: on one hand, one buys LX is for the long run due to its reliability. It is the one car for long rides and road trips and hauling extended family during holidays and driving youth sports team to state wide competitions, etc etc etc. For an one or even two decades commitment, I kind of want a relative modern design so it is easier to suppress the new competition envy. With Volvo X9, Audi Q7, and now BMW 7's new design all with more fuel efficient engine, modern dash, plush interior, and more functional foldable third row seats, the only thing that's stopping me going there is their abysmal records of reliability.

Currently waiting for the next gen LX or an opportunity to score a great deal on an used 16-18 LX. But I am not hopeful that the next-gen LX would impress on the electronics. Lexus is still holding on to its infotainment system from the early 2000s. The last thing they did as an industry first was the adoption of Mark Levinson audios. Unless they fire everyone in their software department and just license the car operating system from Tesla, I see no hope of them leading in the category.

Hows the ride quality over expansion joints and small road imperfections? My 2018 GX is not very good with those kinds of roads and was wondering what you are experiencing on your LX.

I hope they NEVER work with Tesla Motors in any way, shape or form. Next thing you know, Lexus will be going to yearly subscription-based functionality...like BMW is now considering. They can pound sand. I'll NEVER own a Tesla...and their subscription based functionality is just one reason why.

i want to say the GX is more smoother on bumps than the LX / if i have both in comfort mode. The LX with 21" in wheels does not help.
comparing a luxury 2015 gx with stock 18" with 2018 LX570 with stock 21" wheels

But there is no reason to have 21" wheels on LX. I replaced them with 18" Land Cruiser wheels and it helps a lot.

That's disappointing to hear.

very true i want to do the same thing- just didn't get a chance yet..i cant understand what Lexus needs to put 21" wheels on this SUV. Between the cars my kids pick the LX last when we are going out because they complain its "bumpy".

It's way beyond an apples-to-oranges comparison...To start with, two very different vehicles. Add to that a 3" difference in wheel size between the two. 21" wheels definitely do not help due to the thinner sidewall v. that on an 18" wheel. Off this specific topic, a 21" wheel severely limits your choice in tires both on and off road.

Absolutely correct and I did the same.

Having driven a few GX's, I have no regrets in picking a Land Cruiser.

yea its a totally different car which is based of the land cruiser meanwhile the gx is land cruiser Prado. GX is not any less capable. dont get my wrong i love my LX... its my third one. But i am pleasantly surprised how well the GX with air suspension rides and drives. I am not talking about the regular GXs which are mostly with springs and shocks..those ride not as comfortable.

i went back and forth between a rx350L which i kept for 2 weeks and a GX luxury which we end up getting for the wife.

Maybe the lx570 needs to be broken in, i remember my older 570 with 20" wasnt as hard.

I feel like Lexus in the pursuit of better handling stiffened their shocks and springs. As much as reviewers claimed that these BOF trucks are poor handling, I find my GX is handle pretty damn well, other than the jittery ride sometimes. Maybe when my lease is over, I should go check out an earlier model 570.
