Default Extended Car Warranty for LX570

I recently purchased a 1 owner, 2011 LX570 with 25,000 on it. I have some of the factory warranty left on the drivetrain, but not on the bumper-to-bumper items like electronics, air suspension, etc. I was contemplating buying an extended warranty, but thought it may be a waste of money as Lexus are very reliable.I called the dealer to ask them if there were any common issues or items that tend to go bad with that year / make and they said that they did not know of any and that they were 'Bomb Proof.' My main questions are:

A.) Are there any known, expensive items that fail on the 2011 (or any model in that generation) that I need to be concerned about?
B.) Is it worth buying the extended warranty for ~$2-3K? (haven't priced all options yet, but that is what I believe to be the ball park cost of the extended warranty)
C.) If so, any recommendations on what is the best company to get the extended warranty through?
D.) What is a good price for an extended warranty noting the specs of the vehicle?

Any thoughts would be helpful.

It is going to be a toss up. Meaning some go for the Extended Warranty and some don't. It really depends on how much tolerance you have in taking risks. The "main components" like engine/transmission are really really THAT GOOD. It will be the "electronics" that you will have to worry about. Also remember (for example): Every time you lock and unlock, the outside mirrors move in and out. One of these days, one or both will fail. Another example is the NAV unit. Sure you can STILL drive the LX with those above two items nonfunctional. But then might as well drive a Nissan Armada SUV for half the price!! What I'm trying to say is that there are just simply too many electronics that COULD GO WRONG. But then again, IT IS A LEXUS. So it SHOULD be a lot more reliable vs other brands in the same price range or even more expensive ones. The extended warranty will pay for itself if you just have a couple of issues with the above examples.

So yes, I got extended warranty on my brand new 2013 LX570 when I bought mine back in 2

However, my old 2000 LX470 I had since new (I traded in in 2013 for the new LX570) had some 280K+ miles DID NOT. The only major things that "went wrong" during the 280K+ miles of ownership were": Radio attenna that goes up and down failed. Power steering hose leaked soon after a major service by the Lexus dealership (which they denied any wrong doing and blamed it on the vehicle's age at the time like slightly over 200K miles), broken axle (one of front axles) during its FIRST EVER BRAKE JOB at around 100K miles (all highway miles at the time. The same Lexus dealership admit that they broke it and replaced on their dime AFTER they determined my LX470 HAD ALL ORIGINAL BEARINGS AND SEALS on the front axles). The key ignition after inserting the key just turns and turns and will not engage. That were all the things that went wrong with my old LX470.

One thing that is different is that YESTERYEARS' LX's DID NOT have nearly as much electronics vs TODAY'S LX's. This is something to seriously consider when you contemplating on buying an extended warranty or not.

One last thing to consider is how long are you keeping the LX570 for (and how many miles)? If you plan on getting rid of the LX570 BEFORE OEM warranty is over, then obviously no need to buy anything Extended Warranty. This is where the "Lexus Certified from a Lexus dealership" is very attractive bc of its UNLIMITED MILEAGE WARRANTY for up to 6 years from the in-service date (ask for the actual paper documents to make sure).

I guess you will need to figure out how much risks you are willing to take. Plus how much is the extended warranty? Who is selling the extended warranty (Lexus or some other third party?) $2500 for extra 4 years (100000 miles total), MAYBE. $4500 for the same deal, DEFINITELY NOT!!!

Based on my previous dealings...... whatever price they quote you.......counter with 50% bc these extended warranty are extremely profitable indeed. Also I would go for (if at the right price) the one OFFICIALLY from Toyota or Lexus and not from some third party.

And always remember all insurance companies are in business to make money, and not in business to help you out.

Check out my other overhaul project post.

If I were you, I would just save the money and replace those things that surely will break/age/leak/squeak after 6-8 years, such as the shock absorbers, AHC suspension fluid, center diff oil (toyota 75W), front and rear diff oil (mobil1 75w-90LS), radiator upper plastic cover, heater T joints, anti-sway bar bushings, brake caliper rebuild kit, and maybe cab rubber mounts if your local shop is willing to do it.

I was offer an extended warranty on my new 2017 LX570 at a tune of $5500. I respectfully declined because:

1- It was overpriced, although I did knock the price down to $4000 still I think it is overpriced
2- These LX are built bulletproof if maintained properly. Regular oil changes and maintenance should prevent any major problems.

Although there is always the electronic issues such as the navigation screen, climate control and other small issues but nonetheless, I believe most should be just minor.

I PROBABLY will go for it IF it's $2500 AND BACKED by TOYOTA/LEXUS.

But for $4000, NOT!!

I was just reading the brochure for the "LEXUS EXTRA CARE PLATINUM Vehicle Service Agreement" and on the first page under the "Benefits and Peace of Mind" section one of the bullets read:

"Repairs using Lexus-approved parts, performed by factory-trained technicians keeping your Lexus at peak performance"

Does Lexus approved parts = Lexus OEM parts?

Does anyone know that if you get routine maintenance performed at a non-Lexus dealer (i.e. brake pad/rotor replacement, tires, etc.) does it then void any portion of the Lexus VSA?

NO, you don't have to go to the dealership for any repairs if you don't want to.

This is covered under the following (at least in the USA):

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which is enforced by the FTC, makes it illegal for manufacturers or dealers to claim that your warranty is void or to deny coverage under your warranty simply because someone other than the dealer did the work.

Credit goes to:
https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/article...maintenance#do

If I were buying some of the European vehicles, I would be pretty nervy absent a warranty. But I wouldn't be willing to pay for a Toyota/Lexus extended warranty.

I've owned 4 LEXUS vehicles and one Toyota, all bought used. Here's what's gone wrong with them prior to 100K miles (regardless of age):

1995 Toyota Supra: 25K miles so far, had to replace two OEM coil packs at about 20 and 22 years of age, otherwise no factory parts have broken
2003 LS 430: Remote control exterior mirror switch was repaired or replaced under original factory warranty
2003 GX 470: Burned out fog lamp replaced by me at about 90K miles
2005 LS 430: Passenger side rear door weatherstripping developed a tear that didn't appear to be due to abuse; dealer voluntarily replaced for free it after factory warranty expired
2008 LX 570: 90K miles so far and nothing has broken
