Should I have tire pressure sensors changed proactively?
I have a 2013 LX570, and need new tires soon. The mileage is 85,000. The tire pressure monitoring system is working as designed.
As the LX is approaching ten years old, I am worried the tire pressure sensors are nearing the end of their battery life. What is your experience with the battery life of the sensors in your Lexus vehicles, and would you recommend me having the sensors (spare included) changed along with the tires?

It's up to you.... most won't consider this to be a 'preventative maintenance' item(s) though. There are 5 TPMS sensors and you'll need a scanner to relearn afterwards too. The TPMS sensors aren't cheap neither, but certainly 'likely' save on labor when replacing the tires to replace the sensors too (but will you replace all 5 tires or just 4 though?) I think this will be a personal preference. I am still using the original set of TPMS sensors in my other vehicle from 2009.
I plan on taking it to my dealer for the tires, so programming of new sensors is not a real issue for me. Tires are one of the things my local Lexus dealer is close in price to the chain tire shops on. If I do sensor replacement, I will get them to do the spare wheel as well. Really at 10 years old the spare tire could stand to be replaced as well as a precaution. Since I tow a horse trailer, a good spare tire for the LX is a pretty critical piece of equipment for me. I was once stranded roadside on an interstate with horses with a bad spare and that was quite an ordeal to solve.
Or maybe I’ll just wait on sensors and do the black tape over the tire pressure warning light fix when the first one fails. 😁
