Question Extended warranty pricing?

Coming up on the expiration of my 3yr warranty on my 2019 and considering an extended warranty.

Has anyone purchased one lately, what does pricing look like?

Pricing varies on how extended the warranty is. Add to that the financing person will start way high and lower the price depending on how much you squirm and protest. Given the inherent quality of the 200 Series, odds are that the warranty will cost you more than you expect...the dealer makes a ton of money.

I bought my Land Cruiser with 50K, I was given the warranty numbers enough that I told the F&I guy I'd fly back home without the truck if he asked me one more time. I now have 110K on the truck, with absolutely no warranty issues...only regular maintenance by the book.

Personally w/ cars being alot more complex and ppl spend more time on the road these days, I would opt for extended warranty. Back some 30+ years ago when I had my Acura Integra, I didn't opt for extended warranty and it lasted 60k in just 2 yrs w/out issues before it was stolen. Then a V6 Accord, lasted 130k miles, no extended warranty. Only issue on it was the starter which failed at 120k, otherwise no leak absolutely flawless. I also owned an Odyssey, WITH extended warranty .... went thru 3 transmissions over its 240k miles (first failed at 60k which factory warranty covered; 2nd failed at 130k and Honda covered 1/2 and I paid like 2200 or so - extended warranty expired at 105k.... 3rd at 210k and I had an Indy shop replaced w/ a used tranny; otherwise no leak never stranded over its 16yrs of ownership). Also owned an Mercedes E-class - which again owned for over 20yrs now , just some leaks to fix, MAF and Crank sensor ..cheap to fix though - no extended warranty - still have the car. Next would be my Infiniti EX which I still have... 12years of ownership, no extended warranty, just 90k on the meter, zero issues (except windows master switch). Now my LX 570, also had extended warranty - 0 deductible unlimited miles. Had rear wheel bearings replaced, front upper control arms and front shocks replaced, rear hatch struts. For the $3200 invested in the extended warranty, I've gotten my money back already.... and it gave me peace of mind due to 'unlimited miles' over 10yrs.... I do own my cars for very long time, but yes some ppl were lucky to own cars that doesn't break over the years of their ownership, but some would experience lots of failures.... it's a 'luck' / 'random' thing IMO. When i buy my next vehicle, likely I'll opt for extended warranty.

Default Sorry...

...the odds are still against you.

Why do you suppose the F&I people hard sell the warranty?

Simple.

Looking at averages, the dealer obviously makes more money by selling warranties. Add to that the dollar amount the F&I seller gets in commission. ;" You'll pay either way...maintenance money or insurance money.

I end up doing my own work most of the time. If it's beyond my skill and/or time available, I take it to a Toyota/Lexus indy shop...it has better reviews than either the Toyota or Lexus/Toyota local dealers. It's labor rate is also 2/3 of what the dealers charge.

Thanks I reached out to Jerry for a quote.

I am well aware of the warranty game. Ibought my GX did not get an extended warranty, now have over 200k miles on it. I also did not opt for an extended warranty on my Tundra and now have 140k miles on it.

That said and as pointed out, cars have become increasingly more complex and thus expensive to repair. My LX had an issue with the infotainment system blanking out and resetting, which was taken care of under warranty. There are enough technological gizmos, actuators and automatic systems on my LX that I am going to evaluate the cost/,potential benefit of an extended warranty. It is an insurance policy, nothing more. If it is to cost prohibitive then I will take my chances.

So Jerry is going to hook me up... Getting a 6yr 100k Platinum warranty for $1700. To me, that's worth it.

Thanks again for the referral.

yes so now I have 3 more years of coverage up to 100k whichever comes first.

There are many different milage and term options up to 10yrs and 125k miles. So if you don't drive a lot you may prefer a long term with less mileage. From a cost benefit perspective this was the plan that I think best fits within my usage and outlook for my LX. I'm not sure I'll still own it beyond the next 3 yrs and 100k miles.

Just a quick update. I personally was on the fence for the warranty. The LX is extremely reliable, but i have had 2 costly repairs while under warranty. With the current shortage of parts and rising labor cost i decided to pull the trigger. I was able to extend my CPO Warranty out for an additional 5 years. It is zero deductible. So a total of 11 years from the original in service date. This gives me until August of 2029 and unlimited miles for $2910.

In order to get the lower cost and 5 additional years you have to be inside of the original factory warranty. We were at 49,500 miles.

Just wanted to thank you and I let Jerry know you sent me. Got another 2 years on my 2018 IS and the price was a third of what the dealer F&I person tried to sell at the time of purchase.

Do you have deductible per visit, and is a bumper to bumper warranty, or are there exclusions? Thanks.

It's an extension of the original factory Warranty. No deductible.
