i have the two OEM black crossbars on top of my 2018 lx.
i just moved a large ladder, and realized there is no place to add a rope tiedown. the two runners that the crossbars attach to are FLUSH to the top of the roof....i.e. no way to loop rope under the silver runners.
i ended up opening the two back doors, setting up a belt/ratchet to hold it down, then close the two doors on top of the strap.
i can add ropes to the crossbars, obviously. but they will loosen during the trip, and something like a ladder can then slide laterally.
but i was wondering, has anyone figured out a way to add a rope tiedown point onto the roof rails? A small D ring with some way to clamp it to the roof rail would suffice. i searched, but came up with nothing.
Maybe if find some yakimaa or thule part and modify it with Dring?
or maybe clamp a Dring to the crossbar with a heavy duty hose clamp?
was thinking of something like this sketch, where the two red parts clamp to the existing roof rail:
