Default Things to look for

Looking to purchase a 2018 LX with around 35k miles. First big SUV for us and looking for some advice what to look for on this gen of LX.

Test drove it and is solid though steering is quite heavy as noticed by many. Any known issues?

Car is at Carmax and we will probably be purchasing their 100k extended warranty.

If you're buying from Carmax, be sure to book an appointment at a Lexus dealer ASAP after purchase and have them do a full inspection. If they find anything wrong (they might not), tell Carmax you want them to pay for the work, otherwise you can return it within the 30 "Love my car" warranty period if they refuse.

But in terms of what to look out for on a '18--really nothing noteworthy. Is the one you're looking at still covered by Lexus factory warranty? If so, I would also look at buying the Lexus extended warranty instead of the Carfax warranty.

Good luck with the purchase!

It is still under Lexus warranty as it is at 35k miles only. Didn't think about looking into the Lexus Extended Warranty.

We are told if Carmax cannot fix an issue under their warranty, they would send it to a Lexus dealer anyway and they will deal with them.

We will explore Lexus' option and bring it to a local Lexus dealer right after the purchase for an inspection.

Default Get the vin...

...and once you have it, go to Lexus.com, get to the owner's section, give yourself a user name and password and log in. From there you can see any services since the truck was delivered, as well as any recommended services declined by the owner. You can also get a printout from any Lexus dealer...find a service person and give him the VIN.

I'd also suggest a pre-purchase inspection by a Lexus dealer or indy shop. Best $100 or so you can spend.

Got the car and been putting miles on it. A great and capable truck except mpg sucks which was expected.

Tires on the car got destroyed a little from the offroad outing. Changing to a set of Yokohama this weekend.

Noticed some gasoline fume after an hour of offroading. Is that normal?

Looking for a set of offroad wheels and tires before the next offroad outing so I don't destroy the daily tires.
I'd seriously recommend checking 18 or 19" wheels and tires. Highway ride will improve, as will offroad miles. You'll also see a wider tire and wheel selection as well as lower prices.

Gas smell may be coming from the vapor/filter catch can. It's on the driver's side under the car, just forward of the rear bumper.

Nicer ride (less jolting street driving) with 18” wheels versus the stock 21’s

Take offs off of a 2020 LC (wheels only, not the Dunlops, with Lexus caps)

I went with take offs from a Land Cruiser because they were very affordable and shipping was free (on eBay). And we’ve put Michelin LTX M/S (and the newer versions like M/S 2 or Defender) on our Series 80, 100, and now this LX and have been very happy with them.

The tires I got for my LX are the 285/60 R18 120H XL Michelin Defenders which is the stock size for the current Land Cruisers.

If you’re OK with the ride on streets you may want to keep your stock wheels and just get a different size for off-road use. I didn’t like the ride on the 21’s so going 18 was my solution.

Do you have some wheels and tires sizes to recommend in 18''? What tires do you recommend?

We will keep 2 sets (one for onroad and one for offroad). Not looking to mod it anytime soon as it is the daily for hauling kids.
My 2 sets are for winter and non-winter. Winter tires are Blizzaks on new Tundra take-off steel wheels...~ $150 out the door from the local Toyota/Lexus dealer...including new nuts and caps.

Non winter tires are Koyo AT3's.

Probably it's best that you don't have one of those.
