Does your LX low fuel indicator only comes on when there is 10 miles left? It seems awfully low and late. Is this normal?
The "low" fuel indicator coming on simply reminds you to buy more gas. My theory is that it's there for drivers too preoccupied or stupid to read a fuel gauge.
Eg...our LX and Land Cruiser take around 12-13 gallons at 1/4 on the gauge. That's around half a tank. It does make sense to fill around that point to keep the fuel pump covered with gas as that keeps the pump cool and extends its life.

I think your theory is flawed and narrow minded. There are plenty of vehicles that remind the driver at around 20-30 miles. With an average of 14 miles/gallon, isn't it a "luxury" to have the butler remind you sooner? Otherwise, cut the reminder out and put back the old orange/red marker on the fuel gauge.

Maybe some 200 series drivers could learn about 4 quarters on the gas gauge, or toggle the display to show estimated range, although it's a rolling average based on speed driven.
With an average of 14 mpg, I wouldn't involve the butler. Buying for both drivers means a fill at about half a tank. Sometimes it's more than half a tank gone, say on a long freeway run
Does your truck light up the "get gas" light when you actually have only 10 miles left, or is it something you read somewhere?
Yeah, I was testing to see how low I could go before it rings a bell, and it was right at 10 miles on the estimate screen. Here in Houston, we have a gas station every 3 miles in any direction you go, so I'm not concerned with running on fumes. I read in other past threads that the fuel gauge failed and a few drivers were stuck without gas despite the gauge showing half a tank left.
With only 14 mpg and a tiny gas tank relative to its size and weight, you really have to watch the gauge if you're not doing your daily/week routines. People who are busy with more complex work/life issues typically have more important things on their mind rather than simply watching the fuel gauge every so often. Hence reminders can be set to various duration. I think 10 miles is quite low and wondered if that was normal for an LX570.

With 10 miles on the estimate screen, how many gallons did the truck take when you filled it.
When I'm driving, the more important thing to me is to pay attention to driving, including how much gas might be available. Not paying attention is a major cause of rear end collisions. The complex work/life issues will wait until you no longer need to focus on the road. Sounds like good old California bravo sierra. Easily fixed by relocating to a normal state. Ymmv.
I have yet to read about a failure here or on mud that did not fail safe...i.e. when the gauge read E there was still gas left.

I just completely depleted the range on my 17 LX yesterday, drove a couple more miles, and filled up with 20.6 gal. This would indicate that you still have around 4 gal left after the low fuel indicator comes on at 10 miles of range remaining. Hope this helps!
...of driving my company Suburban from DFW to ELP on one tank, around 600+ miles. It was on fumes at the end of the trip, but no need to stop on the way until/unless I needed to stop. GM doesn't equip their trucks with a relief tube.
the issue for me is that when the wheel and seat are set up for my liking (i am tall) the steering wheel blocks sight of the gas gauge.
So if i do not tilt my head to deliberately read the gauge, i can have an unpleasant surprise. and yes, with only 17 mpg, that does not give you much chance to find a gas station once the idiot light goes off.
the end solution would have been to put the gas gauge somewhere it is easier to read???
You should have 50-70 miles of range remaining once the low fuel light goes off, depending on your recent MPG of course. I believe it's a 4.5 gallon reserve, which is a crazy high amount considering the relatively small size of the gas tank.

That could have a detrimental effect on those who are vertically challenged.

my wife is one of those who relies on this light, and mostly the bell to tell her to fuel up. No matter how many times I tell her to just fuel up at 1/2-1/4 tank she won’t. Our 2008 LX570 doesn’t seem to have an audible low fuel reminder, like a bell or a ding…. Has anyone noticed this same thing? She keeps nagging me to fix it and I’m not even sure it exists in this model.
We have been married for over 50 years, and a Lexus low fuel light or alarm just serves as a notice for my wife to make it back ASAP on what gas remains, so that she can tell me I need to take her car to fill it up for her.
I keep an always filled 2.5 gallon gas can in the garage just so I can add some gas before I risk driving it the 10 miles to the nearest gas station, when the display says “2 miles range.”
Just one of those little things that help make a marriage last.
