Default Eco vs Normal mode 2019 model

Anyone notice that the normal mode gets better gas mileage driving than the eco mode? I feel like the eco mode doesn't help at all.

LX is going to suck gas down like nobody's business....just the nature of the beast. The fact that they put the word "eco" anywhere in that vehicle is comical, lol.

At least you can use regular fuel, that makes a significant difference at $12-$15 per tank saved.

I get better mpgs highway in eco mode. City driving I would expect normal mode to do better. I cant stand to drive it around town in eco, it makes the truck a real pig.

You're just fine with 89 octane. I go with non-ethanol and I have since I got the truck 5 years ago...much kinder on rubber parts in the fuel system.

I used ECO mode once for about 5 minutes. It's a joke. The truck no longer shows ECO anything on the instrument panel.

I drive in the "PWR" mode 100% of the time. Much better going downhill as it helps save the brakes by manually downshifting. I don't "drive it like I stole it", but I don't feather the gas pedal either.

Last fill from "empty" gave me 14.5 mpg...around 50/50 in-town and highway. If you are not aware of normal mileage on a 5.7-powered Toyota product, you failed on your homework.

The motor is literally identical to the one in the Land Cruiser/Tundra which both call for regular. The only reason Lexus calls for premium is brand image. In the GX it's more debatable bc there are different compression ratios between it and the smaller 4.6 V8 shared with the 4-Runner. But the 5.7 is literally identical, all around. Save your money, use regular. You're paying for advertising/image with anything else.

And trust me, I know how much of a poison ethanol is (I have a boat I've had countless issues with....but grrrrr let's not get into that lol) but I wouldn't worry about it in a modern car....they design them to run on ethanol crap. I certainly wouldn't worry about it with a high end Toyota V8 powertrain. These 5.7s are indestructible.

Same, all cars always in PWR mode. Do you ever drive it where it starts out in second gear? How is that? I would probably drive it like that some of the time. Is there enough torque? I know this is behind others in acceleration but I've heard this 5.7 is very torquey down low and I've never heard anyone complain that it needs more pickup.

That's really not even that bad, honestly, considering how you said you don't baby the gas.

I think it's stupid when these magazine trivialize fuel economy in these rigs. Any heavy, truck-based SUV is going to suck down gas regardless. Nature of the beast.

I select 2nd gear start when driving on an icy or snowy road...not sure you have that issue.
