Question Ceramic Coating...

No I didn't search, it's Monday morning and I'm too tired....

So has anyone had their LX ceramic coated and if so, what has been your experience with the coating? Was it worth it?

I am having to install a clear bra covering the front fenders, bumper and hood and considering having the back 2/3's of the truck coated.

Ceramic is the best ting since sliced bread UNLESS you enjoy detailing your car every week. Think of ceramic as having your car look like it was freshly detailed by just hosing it off. If a bird has an accident on your car then you don't need to get paranoid if you don't clean it off in 2 nanoseconds.

Combined with PPF, ceramic is about the best thing you can do to protect the paint on your car.

If I had one, it would be. Once I get one it will be.

My last three cars have been coated, as have my wife's. When I buy a new car, my first stop is to my detailer who fixes all of the stuff the dealer screwed up and adds PPF, coating and ceramic tint.

I purchase my 2016 and the owner prior had it coated to the interior and exterior through the dealer. The truck only has 28k but it still looks new. It is holding up well in my opinion. With that said I detailed the inside again and recoated it myself with some product off amazon. Like you i also plan to get a full clear bra job to the front end including mirror cover then ceramic coating over that. Some say coat it then clear bra it but I work in the car industry and the detailers I talk to say paint correction first, clear bra then ceramic coat. The bra will keep the finish protected and the coat will make it "pop"

Are you sure the dealer didnt apply Resistol? It's what they are peddling these days.

Definitely need to correct paint before installing a clear bra and the coating. I dont think I'll be applying the coating to my clear bra.

Not a LX, but I haven't properly washed the car in about 3 months. I did get caught in a downpour this morning. The car is 6 years old in September and was PPF'd and ceramic coated about a week after I picked it up. I think I need to clean the inside of the rear windows.

Any issues with water spotting? Seems to be a common problem.

Nope. When I wash the car I normally do dry it, but I very seldom (never?) dry it after rain. I don't see any water spots.

My detailer used OptiCoat Pro and I know that he put it over the PPF. I'm not sure if he put it under the PPF as well. 70% ceramic tint on the side and back windows.

It's called cilajet. I am sure it's good as it gets for a new car.

As far as coating on top or not, each their own.

That is paint sealant, surely another silicone dioxide formula, another dealer money maker.

Cilajet is dealership added profit. The product itself costs the dealership under $25 and the application is fast and requires no expertise.

When I bought my TSX, the dealer was pushing Cilajet and the price kept getting cheaper. It started at $995, then 895, then 795 and finally $695. I had zero intention of getting this, but as my wife was in the mall and I had an hour to kill, I asked some questions:

How long does it take to apply? "we'll give you a voucher for Starbucks. It'll be done in about an hour and a half."
What maintenance does it require? "Not much. We'll give you a kit. Just use it everytime you wash your car."
How long does it last? "Hard to say, but I've seen cars that still bead water after a couple of years if the kit was used regularly"

They use the high school dropout that washes the car to slop this stuff on, so the total cost to the dealership is in the vicinity of $50 and is a petroleum based sealant.

While Opti-Coat isn't that much more expensive as a product (about $50 for the consumer version, about the same for the pro version), the difference is in the application.

My detailer takes a full weekend to prepare the car, apply the product and wait for it to cure. Without the proper prep, any defects left on the paint before the application will be there for years to come.

AFAIK, there is no dealer applied product that comes close to any of the ceramic coatings.

I did coated my LX few times already as I like to clean my car. This thing is amazing, but research before you buy, there are some cheap alternatives that dont really do much. When a bird took a poop on my car, all it took to remove it was a slight blow of air.

You were tired on Monday morning, and I am pretty beat right now, so I'll be a bit short on words (beyond what I've already said... just go here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/aut...-lx-570-a.html).

Done in 2017, very happy; recoated last year and about to bring it in in a few weeks.

I had Feynlab ceramic coating for my wife's 16 LX (with clear bra on the front hood & bumper) - because we purchased our truck pre-owned, what we WISHED we would have done more is polish out the swirls that existed.
Overall the truck looks shiny and we never have to wax it for a while, don't regret it - it is costly though.
