I'm trying to open the panel to access the brake controller plug and can't figure out how to take this coin tray/switch area out.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
It has been a few years since I installed mine, so I've forgotten the specifics. However, I do recall that I used Toyota Land Cruiser directions. The wiring location and access to it was the same as for the Lexus.
Here are a couple of links to sites to get you started. Just use the same year Toyota Land Cruiser for your search in place of the Lexus LX570.
Thank you for your input I had seen the video and the etrailer message as well. The thing is that they don't show how to remove this piece that I'm struggling with. They show it already out
Installed one today. Not too bad to install. I recommend unplugging the two switch bank panels so you can get them out of the way. Here are a few photos from my installation and the final result. The trick was to gently pop the top piece off first. I partially removed the side panel that allowed me better access to the top part. Once that was done, I took my time. Looked at all the available photos and went back to it. My placement was a compromise. While it could go in several locations, We felt this was the best and interfered the least with the overall dash configuration. Photos in no particular order but you should get the idea. Just look for the heavy blue wire, also, make sure you tape up the plug that goes into the back of the brake controller, the wires are hot and 20 Amps. (I was too lazy to disconnect the battery. I used the Lexus cable. Makes it a very clean and neat install. This is the best unit for the job.
Also, I chose to run the wire under the dash. It reveals some wire, but the alternative would be to drill a large hole (3/4 inch or more due to size of connector) in the plastic panel behind the controller. Seemed like too much modification for too little benefit. It will be easy to fill the small holes for the mount and jam the wire up under the dash if I remove the controller, not so much with a huge hole. I think it looks as clean as it can.
