2016-2018 LX 570 safety feature question
Does the 2016-2018 LX apply the brakes for you are approaching another vehicle? If so, does the cruise control have to be active for it to work? I am not able to figure out from reading if he actually stops for you, beeps at you, or assists with stopping for you.
Yes it has active collision avoidance that warns you and applies the brakes. No the radar cruise control does not have to be on. They are 2 separate systems. Radar cruise control settings are on the steering wheel. Collision avoidance setting are on the right side by your knee. both work great.
The collision and pedestrian detection will apply the brakes and stop the vehicle for you if it detects an obstacle is person. The all speed dynamic cruise will all slow the vehicle to a complete stop in traffic. You do not need to have the cruise control on for the collision mitigation to work.
The cons would be the collision mitigation is somewhat very sensitive and it would get annoying with the constant brake alert and the beeps. But other than that it has more pros than cons. I like the radar cruise control and use it on the highway a lot and when there is traffic, the vehicle would come to a complete stop. Keep in mind that it is a computer so it's rather stupid sometimes like when you set the distance for the cruise control, it would tailgate the vehicle in the front too close sometimes and other times it'll take a while for it to speed up when the vehicle in front of you moves over to another lane.
On my '16 LX I had just 3 false alerts in 2 years so I don't think that it's very sensitive. All these alerts were in a situation when the car in front of me turned right and stopped completely outside my lane. The system probably supposed that the distance between our cars is too short and the other car is stil in my lane.

That sounds dangerous itself depending upon the situation around you. I understand that false alarms are outweighed by the benefits but that particular instance sounds intense.
It is intense but not nearly as intense as rear ending someone. I consider it a good trade as it has worked several times for me.
Good point. Let me asked you this. Do you trust the system enough to completely take your foot off the brake in stop and go traffic? I will be coming from a vehicle without collison avoidance, so I am assuming the first few times I am going to be very uneasy letting the vehicle stop for me.
I regularly test my LX when I exit the freeway going about 70 mph, as long as the radar has picked up the vehicle in front it will maintain the distance set and brake all the way down to a stop in a very composed manner. If my LX has not picked up the vehicle in front and a car pulls in front of me in heavy traffic, my vehicle will quite violently brake to the point I worry about getting rear ended by a car from behind and therefore don’t use radar cruise in a built up area.
