Default Tires?

I recently purchased a CPO 2016 LX570 and there's still a decent amount of rubber left, but I see that there's very limited choices when replacements are due. The stock Dunlops are 275/50/21, but is there a more mainstream size that will fit? Tirerack shows Dunlops as the only option for the Lexus with 21" wheels and Michelin doesn't even list this size on their site. Any ideas?

There is only the one choice. It is a good tire and would have no issue with buying them again. Only way around is to change your wheel size. Maybe one day another tire maker will venture into this size but I am doubting it.

Thanks for the heads up, although not exactly what I was hoping to hear. The LX is driven by my wife 99% of the time going to and from school and will likely never see much of an obstacle aside from an occasional speed bump at the mall.

Is there a more mainstream size that will fit the 21" wheels? There's a ton of room to go with a bigger sidewall and I'm sure we could go narrower (or wider) than 275 if need be.

The maximum size you can go up to in a 2008 - 2015 LX is 33" without any modifications. I think 2016 and up should be the same. You can use an online tire/wheel calculator to see which size combos give you 33" or less. For example, 275/55, 265/55, 285/50 all should work.

One thing to keep in mind is as you get "more sidewall/bigger/thicker" you MAY RISK "unstable swaying". I had this happen with our OLD 2000 LX470 way back when I changed tires (4) to a little "bigger with more sidewall" and I found the vehicle tend to "sway" at high speeds and during emergency maneuvers. I changed the tires very soon afterwards back to the OEM size and everything and all went back to normal. Our 2013 LX570 still got OEM tires and probably will be due for new tires before the end of the year (but the old 2013 LX570 uses 20 inch tires if I remember correctly? In 2016 the LX570 went to the larger 21 inch (and hence limits on tire choices)?)

Also some tire shops will let you "swap out" tires if you find them unsatisfactory (I think there are some limitations. Obviously if you run the new tires for some 2500 miles and came back.........it will not work. But if you had only ran the tires for like 10 miles and came back, then it is more reasonable. Just ask for it in writing.)

Good luck.

Noting your location in Wisconsin, I'd imagine she very likely will see ice and snow and mixes of both. Same thing here in Idaho and I was unable to find anything for serious winter in a 21" tire.

I ended up simply buying a set of Tundra 18" take-off wheels from a local dealer...zero miles, TMPS senders included along with lug nuts. Cheap...very. I added Blizzaks to the wheels and have zero complaints. My opinion on the OEM tires is far less than decent once the weather turns...not to mention that they're a bit scary at speed on dirt roads. Tire size is 275-70R x 18, around 31" or so. Non-winter tires are Toyo AT/2's in the same size.

I've never experienced "unstable swaying", or another kind of swaying for that matter. 18" tires use a higher inflation pressure than the oem 21s yet ride comfort is not compromised. To me it's not so much "limits on tire choices", but instead "the only game in town".

Put some 20" wheels on an you have tons of choices in the 285/50//0 size and you could also run 275/55/20's even more choices and less expensive
