First time posting here. First of all, thank you all for your posts, i learned great amount from them. I am thinking about buying 2017 lx570 and start asking prices from different dealers (located around 70 miles from where I live). One thing puzzles me is that I got two different base model prices from different dealers, $89380 vs $89880. I am wondering why the difference, is it because Lexus just changed their base model price (from 89380 to 89880 or the other way?) or is it because of lexus has different base price for different dealer locations? It is funny that when i went to Lexus LX website, it showed starting price as $89880 in one of pictures, but when i clicked the link to build, it showed based price as $89380 on building web page. Anybody know why?

 

That's a $500 reduction! Bonus! I would just accept and carry on. When you look at two items in the store that are exactly alike and one is priced lower which one do you take to the register? And do you alert the cashier that there is actually a higher priced exact same item on the shelf? NOOOOOOO! You just accept your good fortune and carry on.

 

Price did increase $500 at one point during MY2017 production. This happens all the time. So, all else being equal (option packages and agreed-upon pricing), if you're looking at a vehicle built before the increase, it will cost you $500 less than one built after.

 

caha14, could it be that Lexus lowered base price recently instead of increased it? since I would think the price (the lower price) shown on Lexus building page would be more accurate and up to date?

 

Maybe I misunderstood your original post, and perhaps I should look on lexus.com again. However, having just bought a 2017 LX that was built in 2016 and based on what I saw in inventory, my sense was that pricing had increased.

I have never seen Lexus drop prices within the model year (or across years, for that matter). Only exception was when 2010 LX was introduced in 2009, and ML system was being included for free on 2010 LXs built in 2009. This went away with Jan 2010-onward builds.

 

I can tell you that the base price listed on the window sticker of my LX that I picked up last week says $89,380. The last five on my VIN are 32480.

 

$500 bucks on a $90k+ vehicle is not a big issue. You should be able to get the price reduced way more in negotiations at purchase.

 

OP, I now see what you're talking about... I had originally posted too quickly.

As I said, MSRP did increase by $500 during this MY production. Why is the 'Build' option still showing the lower MSRP? Because Lexus websites are notorious for issues like this... things are updated in one place but not another, you may see contradictory information, website will show new model year for a vehicle but 'Build' page will show old model year, etc. I assure you that base MSRP went UP, not down.

Having said this, to Greg's point, $500 may not matter, broadly speaking. However, if you do end up "pushing the envelope" in your negotiation, where you get to a point where there truly isn't much more room, you bet that $500 will matter. In my personal case (purchasing my 2017), I can assure you that had I picked the exact same vehicle I got priced at an MSRP of 98,625 instead of the MSRP of 98,125 that mine had, I would have absolutely had to pay more (given the aggressive deal we worked out) - no question about it.

 

Having just purchased a 2017 LX I feel for you in negotiating price. The local Lexus dealer was not willing to budge and with USAA buying service it was only a 2k discount. I found and eventually purchased from an out of state dealership via the internet after checking 3 border states. They were willing to move more in the price. The price on true car average for a good deal is 4-5k off. Was able to get close to this on a new vehicle with 21 miles. Just takes a lot of work. Also saying you'll pay cash on the internet is helpful ( ended up providing my own bank financing with check once price was negotiated). They didn't give me a hassle, just made it easier since they didn't have to finance. Also the options on the LX is difficult to decipher from the pricing sheet they send. Not a window sticker for sure so you don't know what the price of the options are. In addition they will not put price in writing. Negotiations were verbal only with discount. Hope this helps, just my experience.
