Default Proper 305s on the LX570

Finally got some A/Ts mounted on the LX. 305 section width and 33" height. Falken Wildpeak A/T3's in 305/55/20s. Sure they're 20's, but they now got some good sidewall. No longer need to worry about scratching the wheels or weak sidewalls with Load E tires.

Initial impressions from a short couple drives, ride is good at 35 psi! Better than the stock tires as there's more rubber. Was afraid it might be harsher due to the load rand E tires, but impacts to perpendicular lines and transitions in the road come across as a much softer "thwack" in feel and sound. Much like 18" wheels or yore.

Road noise, there is some gentle low frequency hum in the background. Not any crazy harsh sound that you hear from other 4x4s on the road. It's about the same level as the wind noise and the engine when casually accelerating. So nothing too prominent but it's there. Pleasantly surprised actually.

They look good! No rubbing? Quite wide and 33" diameter - I would bet that there would be some rubbing issues.

Yes, there are fitment and clearance issues to address for this setup. Mild nip and tuck necessary.

1) 1" spacer. The stock wheels are 20x8.5 +60. A spacer makes it effectively +35 offset. Absolutely necessary to clear the upper a-arm.

2) Removed front mudflap. Temporary as I intend to put the flaps back once I've modified them. Additionally, I get just a tad of rub when braking hard and turning the wheels slightly on the inner leading edge of the side skirt. Will resolve this with some trimming when I get around to it.

3) Remove leading edge diffuser and pull forward wheel well liner. This is easy to do by undoing 3 bolts below the bumper that holds the liner, and redrilling holes 1/2" from their original positions to pull it forward. Details and pics on ih8mud by my same screen name.

That looks so much better than the 285/50/20.

You won't find me disagreeing, and I'm quite liking the change. It did take a bit of a nip and tuck to fit this. Worth the effort.

I no longer feel it held back by the fragile street tires. Prior, I was hesitant to turn into curbs (when parallel), as the wheel is quite flush with the tire sidewall, along with the relatively low profile tires. By fitting a wide tire, the wheels (even at 20") are nicely tucked within the profile of the tire.

We had an epic rain in SoCal yesterday. The A/T tires were a huge change on the freeway, in adding confidence when driving over lots of standing water. Credit also goes to the Falken Wildpeaks, with deepest in class 19/32" tread depths for evacuating water. Exactly what I was looking for in handling inclement weather.

Besides, the LX570 is no longer showed up by the 305s I had on the LX470 prior.

These trucks should really come with LT rated tires from the factory instead of passenger car rated tires, but that would significantly raise the cost for Toyota. I am considering going from LT285/70/17, 32.7," to LT295/70/17 next time, 33.3". Stock is 31.22."
You also get the side benefit of recording about 5% less miles on the odometer.

looks nice, but wider tires DO NOT increase traction in rain. Actually they worsen your chance of hydroplaning due to more surface area on tire.
Skinny tires are better in the rain.
just fyi.
