The tailgate on my 09' is not responsive. I recently got my tires changed and stacked the older ones in the boot with the third row folded up (love the space). I tried pressing the tailgate close button on the door panel and it beeped twice and didn't close. So I had to manually close it and without any resistance it did. I thought it was a sensor Clearance issue because of the tires.
Since then it won't open or close with the buttons regardless of the boot being empty and will beep twice every time. And has to be operated manually. I tried with the front button right next to the steering as well as back one. Please help!

Check the "Power Back Door Off" switch. It's on the lower dash to the right of the steering wheel.

 

Can effectively guarantee that's the problem. My wife drives our LX and when I occasionally drive it I sometimes knock it unexpectedly with my knee before I can adjust the seat. The 2-beeps when we try to close the tailgate reminds me that I should adjust the seating position BEFORE getting in the rig...! I never seem to remember though.
